Nuki launches improved version of smart door lock
Austrian manufacturer Nuki has released a new version of its Smart Lock. The smart door lock, which makes a house key superfluous, costs 229 euros. Owners of the original model are eligible for an upgrade program.
One of the novelties of the Smart Lock 2.0 is the separate door sensor, a small magnet that is attached to the door frame. Previously you could only check the position of the lock via the Nuki app, now you can also see whether the door is open or closed. The integration of Bluetooth 5.0 should lead to a five times greater range and a more stable connection. The Smart Lock 2.0 now also offers full compatibility with Apple HomeKit and Zigbee, making it easier to integrate the door lock into a smart home environment.
In the first half of 2019, Nuki will launch another new product: the Nuki Opener. This device is intended to open the entrance door of an apartment building, so that you no longer need a key for that either. According to the manufacturer, users can easily install the Nuki Opener on the intercom themselves.
For the new Smart Lock you pay 229 or 299 euros in a bundle with a Nuki Bridge. This device allows you to operate the door lock remotely. If you own the first version of the Smart Lock, you can return that device and purchase the new model at a discount.
