NPO has released the NPO Start app for Android TV. The app was released last year for competitor Apple TV and is already available on TVs and set-top boxes from various brands. The app appears in the Play Store.

The app can be installed from Thursday, NPO reports. Smart TVs from TP Vision, sold under the Philips brand name, and Sony, among others, run on Android TV. NPO mentions the advantage of the app that it can reach users of TVs and set-top boxes of various brands with one update.

It had been known for some time that such an app would come and in April the NPO reported to a tweaker that the Android TV version was being finalized. In June last year, the NPO Start app for Apple TV was released.

With the app, the NPO channels can be viewed live and broadcasts can be viewed back. The app is free to use, but there is also a paid NPO Start Plus subscription, which makes it possible to look back in higher image quality.
