NPO Start and NLZiet are working with Chromecast again
NPO Start and NLZiet are working again with Google’s HDMI dongle Chromecast. The apps of the services could not send images to the dongle since Tuesday. NLZiet solved the malfunction on Wednesday, the NPO did that on Thursday afternoon.
The fault must be rectified, reports the NPO via Twitter and on their own site. The NPO has not disclosed what the cause and solution are. The outage occurred from Tuesday afternoon, according to both services after an update from Google. According to the NPO, this concerns the update of the Cast SDK from April 23. Google could not confirm that the update changed the way the Chromecast receives streams.
According to video platform NLZiet, which solved the malfunction on Wednesday, it went wrong because the Chromecast tried to display images with the wrong player. “An update from Google on the Chromecast referred to a beta player,” says Cto Sander Kouwenhoven. “It contained code that was causing problems with the drm. By explicitly referencing the non-beta version of the player in an update to our Chromecast app, we were able to solve the problem.” The NPO is contacting Google to prevent such problems in the future.
