Nottingham starts test with wireless charging of taxis

In the British city of Nottingham, a test is being conducted with the wireless charging of the battery of electric taxis. The cars should be charged when they are waiting for a customer.

The intention is that a six-month pilot will be carried out with the wirelessly rechargeable taxis, after which the project will be evaluated. As part of the test, ten taxis will be equipped with the wireless charging equipment, and if successful, more taxis could be equipped with wireless charging.

The intention is to have wireless charging this year. However, it is not yet clear when the project will start: the city council has not announced an exact date.

Nottingham City Council is spending £3.4 million (about £4 million) to install five charging plates where taxis can charge wirelessly. The intention is to contribute to cleaner air and tackling climate change with less emissions from taxis.
