Nothing, the new company of OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has announced its first product with the Ear 1. The company does not share concrete specifications yet, but the company does show a teaser image of the earplugs.

The Ear 1 will have a design that combines transparency, ‘iconic shapes and refined functionalities’, writes Nothing. The company says that all the design elements of the Ear 1 have a purpose and that it is a “stripped down” design. A teaser image shows that it is likely to be in-ear earplugs with a slanted pill shape, with a vertical element hanging below.

Nothing says that it has chosen earplugs as its first product, because the company believes that there is room for differentiation within that market. In addition, this market is now growing strongly, which means that the company believes it can raise a lot of money to subsequently be able to tap into new product categories.

Nothing does not provide further information, such as price, battery life and whether noise canceling is supported. The company has already indicated that it wants to release wireless earplugs this summer. It therefore seems that the release of the Ear 1 will take place at the end of June.

Carl Pei announced in January that he had started Nothing; he mainly wants to focus on ‘smart devices’. The company has also acquired the Essential brand name, although it is not yet in use.
