Nothing is going to release Ear 1 wireless earphones in June
Nothing, the new company of OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has announced its first product with the Ear 1. The company does not yet share concrete specifications, but the company does show a teaser image of the earplugs.
The Ear 1 will have a design that combines transparency, ‘iconic shapes and refined functionality, writes Nothing. The company says that all of the Ear 1’s design elements have a purpose and that it is a ‘stripped-down’ design. A teaser image shows that these are probably in-ear earplugs with an oblique pill shape, with a vertical element hanging underneath.
Nothing says it has chosen the earplugs as the first product, because the company thinks that there is room for differentiation within that market. In addition, this market is now growing strongly, which means that the company thinks it can raise a lot of money to subsequently tap into new product categories.
Nothing gives further information, such as price, battery life and whether noise-canceling is supported. The company previously indicated that it wants to release wireless earplugs this summer. It therefore seems that the release of the Ear 1 will take place at the end of June.
Carl Pei announced in January that he had started Nothing; he mainly wants to focus on ‘smart devices’. The company has also acquired the Essential brand name, although it is not yet being used.
