Norton adds Ethereum cryptominer to 360 . antivirus suite
NortonLifeLock will bring the Norton Crypto application to the 360 antivirus subscription in ‘the coming weeks’. The application allows subscribers to mine ethereum when their PC is idle. The mined crypto is stored with a Norton cloud service.
Norton Crypto allows users to use their GPU for mining ethereum, NortonLifeLock writes. Users see how much ethereum is mined per day and how much it would be worth in US dollars according to the current exchange rate. In addition, users can see when extra ethereum will be paid out again and how much ethereum they have stored in their Norton Crypto Wallet. They can also pause or restart mining.
Norton says it has developed the Crypto application “to provide users with a safe and reliable way to mine crypto.” The company also notes that the mined crypto is not stored on the user’s hard drive, but in Norton’s cloud wallet.
The Norton Crypto application will first be available to early adopters within Norton 360 from Thursday. All Norton 360 subscribers should get the crypto service in the coming weeks. It is unclear whether the service will be activated immediately or whether users will have to turn it on manually. Norton 360 is a subscription that includes antivirus software, firewalls, cloud backup, password manager and more. The subscription costs 75 euros per year.
