Norsk Hydro Production Nearly Recovers After Ransomware Attack
The production of the Norwegian aluminum company Norsk Hydro has almost returned to its former level after the ICT attack last month. The damage that the company has incurred in the first week of the hack is 300 million Norwegian kroner, or 31.1 million euros.
The company reports this in an update. Norsk Hydro’s production is said to be almost back to pre-hack levels. The company does say that it has experienced delays with administrative matters, such as invoices, after the attack. The company did not specify when these delays will be over. It is also not yet known who was behind the attack and what the ransom demands were.
Reuters says that despite last month’s hack, Norsk Hydro was able to continue production from the primary branch of metal fabrication with a number of manual fixes. Production of the branch that makes parts for car manufacturers, construction companies and other industries had to be cut by fifty percent. At three major business units, production is back at ninety percent of what it was before the hack. While the Building Systems branch is running at 75 percent. The company had an IT risk insurance policy with the American International Group, but the potential compensation had a limit on which the company would not elaborate.
On March 18, Norsk Hydro was hit by the LockerGoGa virus. Then the company cut off all its computers worldwide from the network, forcing automated processes to be done by hand.
