Nokia will have a new director as of September 1
The Finnish network equipment manufacturer Nokia has a new director after almost six years. It concerns a Finn who is currently running a company in a different industry. The current director will leave on August 31.
Director Rajeev Suri will remain as an advisor for a few months after his resignation at the end of August, after which he will leave the company permanently on January 1 next year, Nokia says. He had been CEO since Nokia sold its telephone division to Microsoft in 2014.
His successor is Pekka Lundmark, the director of a Finnish state-owned energy company called Fortum. That company is located in Espoo, where Nokia also has its headquarters. He had worked for Nokia for a while in the 1990s, the company says.
Last week, Bloomberg news agency claimed that Nokia is considering its options to, for example, sell assets or merge with another company, due to competition in the network equipment market. Nokia competes with the Swedish Ericsson and the Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE.
