Nokia has rolled out its Here map service to more Android devices than just Samsung Galaxy models. For the time being, it is still a test release for devices with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher. The app is not yet available in the Google Play Store.

Nokia has released the beta apk of its Here navigation services for Android. The company wants to receive feedback with the early release of the app before moving on to a wide official rollout of the final service. Users have to side-load the Here app for the time being and will therefore not receive automatic updates. The beta is also not officially available in the Play Store yet. The Finnish manufacturer gives an explanation about side-loading on its site.

However, the Here app has been available in Samsung’s Galaxy Apps store since the end of August. It is not yet known when Here for Android will be available in the Play Store. For now, only smartphones with at least Android 4.1 Jelly Bean can run the software and Nokia also recommends using a smartphone with at least 1GB ram and a screen size of between four and six inches for Here. The map service provides offline navigation for nearly 100 countries, public transport information for more than 800 cities in 40 countries, and live traffic information for more than 40 countries.
