“Nokia is thinking about selling map software Here”

Nokia may be planning to divest its mapping and navigation software and focus more on network technology. The company is said to have asked whether there is interest in its software, which includes the Uber taxi service.

The rumors come from Bloomberg, which cites unnamed sources. Nokia is said to have marketed its mapping and navigation services, which are available to consumers under the name Here. The reason for this is that the company would like to focus mainly on the development of network technology in the future. The financial position must also be improved with the money that the sale of Here brings in.

Nokia is said to have asked companies whether there is interest in an acquisition of Here. Uber, among others, would have been asked. It is not clear whether a takeover has actually been discussed. In addition, there are said to be interested investment companies and car manufacturers, but they have not been named by Bloomberg. Here would be worth about 2 billion euros, although it is not clear whether there are also companies that want to put that amount on the table.

Nokia previously gave up its telephone branch: it was sold to Microsoft. The company has been struggling with disappointing results in the telephone and smartphone market for years. With Nokia Networks, it has another important industry that focuses on making equipment for wireless networks.
