Nokia is looking for iOS and Android developers for map service Here

Nokia is said to be planning to re-release its Here platform, which also includes the map application of the same name, for Android and iOS. The Finnish company is looking for developers for both mobile platforms, according to recent job openings.

The current Here Maps application is only available for Windows Phone devices. Other smartphone users have to use the mobile browser to access the map service, but that seems to be coming to an end. Nokia has posted a job posting stating it is looking for an Android and an iOS developer.

With the vacancies, Nokia seems ready to once again release a mobile version of Here for Android and iOS. The company previously tried to attract customers with map apps for those platforms, but this ambition disappeared when Nokia started to focus primarily on smartphones with Windows Phone. Currently, a Here app is only available for that mobile operating system.

Here has become more important to Nokia now that Microsoft has taken over the company’s phone division. That happened at the end of last month, which brought an end to the old Nokia. Only a few parts of the Finnish telephone manufacturer now exist independently, such as the map service. Microsoft has licensed Here and related services.

Nokia seems to set its sights on technology in smart cars as well as on cards. On Monday, it was also announced that the company is putting 72 million euros in a fund that Nokia is using to invest in companies that develop computing and communication technologies for cars.
