Nokia is in talks with Alcatel-Lucent about acquisition
Nokia confirms that it is in talks with the French group Alcatel-Lucent about a takeover. The talks are at an advanced stage, but Nokia emphasizes that it is still uncertain whether an agreement will be reached.
After rumors of a possible acquisition had surfaced, Nokia confirms its interest in Alcatel-Lucent and is in acquisition talks. It is unclear whether Nokia will acquire all of Alcatel-Lucent or just the division for wireless equipment. According to Nokia, the potential is a full acquisition.
However, Bloomberg on Monday brought the rumor of a takeover and according to the site it was only about the telecom division that Nokia wanted to better compete with Ericsson. Over the weekend, Bloomberg already reported that Nokia wanted to get rid of Here Maps. Nokia would estimate the value of its map service at 2 billion euros and will soon accept offers.
Nokia may want to use the money from the sale of Here Maps to pay for the acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent.
