Nokia Here for Android leaks

The Android application for Nokia’s map service Here Maps has appeared online. Until now, the app was only for Samsung phones. Nokia Here Maps offers the user, among other things, offline navigation.

The required apk installation file, which is 35MB in size, can be installed on devices with Android 4.0 and higher, Android Police reports. The source of the leaked app is not clear, but the application still bears the beta label. Nokia announced in August that it would release its map service for Android in October, but exclusively on Samsung devices. The maps application is also said to be compatible with Samsung’s Gear S smartwatch.

Compared to Google Maps, for example, Here Maps offers offline navigation as soon as the necessary map material has been downloaded. Maps can be installed per country. Car and walking routes are also available. Nokia has previously made an Android port of its maps app for its Android X devices, which would be especially popular with Windows Phone users.
