Nokia completes acquisition of wearables maker Withings
Finnish Nokia has completed its acquisition of wearables maker Withings. Both companies announced the planned acquisition at the end of April. Nokia will make wearables and other products focused on fitness and health.
Nokia will open an office next week in the American city of San Francisco and tell more about its future plans after the acquisition. Withings will be part of Nokia’s new Digital Health division, where the French company’s 200 employees will also work.
Nokia’s Digital Health division is completely separate from HMD, the also Finnish company that will develop smartphones and tablets under the name Nokia. This is done under the leadership of a few former Nokia top people, but HMD stands on its own two feet financially and as a company.
Withings makes wirelessly connected health-focused devices such as fitness trackers, scales and blood pressure monitors. Nokia now mainly produces network equipment and provides associated services. Nokia paid 170 million euros for the company.
