Nokia comes with a second repairable smartphone
Nokia has presented a second repairable smartphone. The G42 5G is a midrange smartphone, of which users can replace the screen, USB port and battery themselves. This is possible with parts that can be purchased from iFixit.
A new screen costs €49.95, a new battery €24.95 and a new charging port €19.95, says Nokia licensee HMD Global. These are available from repair site iFixit, just like the G22 that was released earlier this year.
The G42 has a 6.56″ LCD with a resolution of 1612×720 pixels. The device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ SoC with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which is expandable via a microSD card. The phone Like many other models in this price range, it has a 3.5mm jack. The battery has a capacity of 5000mAh and can be charged at 20W via the USB-C port. The phone supports 5G.
The device has a 50-megapixel camera on the back, with a 2-megapixel macro camera and a depth sensor. On the front there is an 8-megapixel front camera. The G42 5G is available immediately and costs 249 euros.
Update, Thursday: This article initially mentioned Shadow as the name for the phone, but the company has said that the final name will be G42 5G.
