Nokia 9 PureView won’t get Android 11 upgrade after all due to camera problems
HMD Global will not provide the Nokia 9 PureView with the promised Android 11 upgrade, due to ‘incompatibility between the camera and the software’. The company promises to release security updates. The upgrade should be released earlier this year.
The Android 11 upgrade caused ‘a less good experience’ than HMD Global wanted due to that incompatibility. The manufacturer does not provide details on the exact issues, only that they prompted the company not to release the upgrade.
On May 7, the company shared another roadmap stating that the Nokia 9 PureView should have been upgraded by Q3 2021. According to an earlier schedule, that upgrade should have happened in the second quarter.
The smartphone appeared in March 2019 and then came with Android 9. The smartphone has five cameras, including two RGB sensors and three monochrome sensors. These sensors all have a 12-megapixel resolution. Due to the cancellation of the upgrade, HMD is offering customers with a 9 PureView discount for a Nokia X-series phone.
