Noctua comes with two 5V variants of 60mm fan
Noctua, the Austrian manufacturer of fans, comes with two new 5V models in 60mm version. There is a model with fixed rotation speed and a variant with pwm. Noctua says it will release more 5V fans soon.
The NF-A6x25 5V rotates at a fixed speed of 3000rpm. The speed of the NF-A6x25 5V PWM with 4-pin connection is variable between 650 and 3000rpm. For both fans, which are 25 mm high, a maximum noise level of 19.3 decibels applies according to the manufacturer. The new fans are based on the existing 12V variant of the NF-A6x25.
5V fans cannot be connected to fan headers of regular motherboards. According to Noctua, the demand for small 5V fans is increasing. According to the manufacturer, these are widely used to replace noisy fans in NAS and switches, or to cool computer boards such as the Raspberry Pi. Noctua previously released a 40mm fan with 5V connection.
Noctua supplies the 5V fans with an ‘OmniJoin Adapter Set’, a kit that should make it possible to connect the fans to proprietary connectors from the aforementioned devices. Also included in the adapter is a polarity protection diode, so users are safe if they accidentally connect the fan with reversed polarity.
The recommended retail price of the fans is 14.90 euros for both versions. According to Noctua, the fans are currently shipping and will be available in stores soon. Coinciding with the announcement of the two 60mm models, Noctua says more 5V fans are coming soon. It is not yet known which formats the new fans will receive.
