Noctua celebrates tenth anniversary
Cooler manufacturer Noctua was founded ten years ago as a joint venture between an Austrian and a Taiwanese company. The company, known for its use of the color brown, among other things, released its first cooler in 2005.
Those first tower coolers were the NH-U12 and NH-U9, which appeared in October 2005. Noctua still releases coolers within that series: after four generations, the NH-U12S, NH-U9S and NH-U14S are currently in the company’s range. The entire cooler family now consists of seventeen models.
In 2006, Noctua released its first free mounting kit upgrade when AMD introduced the AM2 socket. Since then, the company has continued to do so, also for Intel’s sockets and so the old NH-U12 and NH-U9 can still be used in combination with Intel’s LGA1151 platform.
In mid-2006, the company released the NF-S12, Noctua’s first fan. The series is now in its third iteration. Brown is the signature color of the company’s fans, but it is no longer the exclusive color. In addition, Noctua is working on project ‘Chromax’ where customers can choose their own color to match the appearance of the rest of the system.
The name Noctua comes from Athene Noctua, the Latin name for little owl. The company was founded in 2005 as a joint venture between the Austrian Rascom Computer Distribution Ges and the Taiwanese cooler manufacturer Kolink International Corporation.
