The next major update to No Man’s Sky will be released on July 24 and will include an expanded multiplayer mode. The free update will be released simultaneously for PC, PlayStation 4 and the upcoming Xbox One version of the game.

Developer Hello Games has been testing the multiplayer mode for the past six months. In the mode, small groups of players can do the same things that are normally only possible in single player. It is not yet clear how many players can play together at the same time.

That the update will be released on July 24 is by Sean Murray of developer Hello Games announced on a broadcast of Microsoft’s Inside Xbox Livestream. The update was already announced at the end of March, according to the studio it is the largest expansion for the game to date.

No Man’s Sky came out in August 2016 and was then revealed to have no multiplayer, despite the developer suggesting that players might encounter each other. A year later, an update appeared with a limited form of multiplayer, in which players can see each other as balls of light and communicate.

The update release date is also the day the Xbox One version of No Man’s Sky comes out. The developer had previously indicated that it would be released in the summer. In addition to the multiplayer mode, the Xbox version also includes all previously released expansions.
