No-IP has all domains again after Microsoft takedown
No-IP says it has all domains again after Microsoft’s takedown earlier this week. The DNS provider announced this in a blog post. Microsoft took the more than twenty domains offline because of the possible spread of malware.
“We would like to update and announce that all 23 domains taken down by Microsoft are in our possession,” No-IP said in a blog post. According to the company, everything should be fully functional again.
On Monday night it was announced that Microsoft had taken 23 domains of No-IP, a widely used dynamic DNS provider, offline because they were allegedly used in the distribution of malware. The company was granted court approval to become the DNS authority for the domains in question, much to the ire of No-IP.
The takedown, which resulted in four million sites that were suddenly offline, did not run smoothly. Microsoft acknowledged that this also led to systems being taken offline that were not used for the distribution of malware. It is not yet clear whether No-IP will take further steps, but the company says it will report more about this matter at a later date.
