Nintendo will release new console for emerging markets next year
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has announced that he will probably come with special hardware and software titles for emerging markets such as China as early as next year. These are products for gamers who have less to spend.
The CEO did not give details about the upcoming products to Reuters. It would in any case be about ‘a new kind of console’ and game titles specifically aimed at emerging markets. Not only would the products become cheaper, but they would also be aimed at users who have little experience with gaming. The new hardware and software must be released in 2015 or at the latest in 2016.
By targeting emerging markets, Nintendo is likely hoping to turn the tide. On Wednesday, Nintendo announced a loss of 328 million euros in its fiscal year 2013. This was mainly due to disappointing sales of the Wii U.
