Nintendo will continue to support 3DS through 2018

Nintendo promises that it will continue to support the 3DS series through 2018. That means that there are still new games for the handheld console to be released next year. Nintendo recently announced a new portable game console with the 2DS XL.

Nintendo CEO Reggie Fils-Aime, who is the director of the American branch of the company, confirmed this in a conversation with IGN. According to Fils-Aime, new games will continue to be announced ‘continuously’ for the 3DS consoles, and will be at least through next year. Nintendo wants to announce a series of games for the 3DS handhelds at the E3 fair, among other things.

IGN also asked if there are any new games coming out of the special Nintendo Selects series, which offer games for a relatively low price. It was also asked whether Nintendo plans to release more “classic” games for its handhelds. On both questions, Fils-Aime said there was “nothing to announce at this time.”

Fils-Aime’s statements come shortly after Nintendo announced a successor to the 2DS handheld. This 2DS XL is a more powerful version with larger screens, namely with a diagonal of 4.88″ and 4.18″. The console will be released in the United States on July 28.

Speaking to IGN, Fils-Aime also revealed that his company has sold approximately 2.3 million units of the NES Classic Mini. The popular retro console is now no longer offered; According to Nintendo, priority is given to the production of the Switch.
