Nintendo Wii is used less than other consoles
According to the American research firm Nielsen, the Wii is the least used console. Competitors’ consoles are on more often. Even a veteran like the PlayStation 2 is used more often than Nintendo’s console.
Research firm Nielsen surveyed a test audience about the usage of the consoles that were in the house. The US agency tried to find out how often the machines were actually used. Nielsen compared the use of the Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and also included the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube in the study. The figures show that the Wii is used the least compared to the competition. Of the six consoles, Wii has the fewest active users, the shortest duration per play session, and the lowest number of daily play sessions. Only the number of days per month that the console is used does the Wii not end in last place, although only the GameCube scored worse on that part.
The Xbox 360 turned out to be the favorite console of Americans in use. It turns on most days of the month and the play sessions on the 360 last the longest. It is also striking that the Xbox and the PlayStation 2 are still widely used. The scores of these two oldies are comparable to those of the PlayStation 3 and are not much lower than those of the Xbox 360.
In December 2008, the month Nielsen conducted the study, the Wii was used for an average of five days, while the PS3 was used for 6.8 days and the Xbox 360 was turned on for an average of 7.1 days. Play sessions on the Wii average 58 minutes compared to 78 minutes for the Xbox 360. Play sessions on the Xbox and PS2 last 77 and 71 minutes, respectively, and the PlayStation 3 averages 64 consecutive minutes.
