Nintendo to release Switch console with OLED screen October 8 for $350
Nintendo introduces a new model of the Switch with a 7″ OLED screen and an improved stand for tabletop mode. The new OLED model will be released October 8 and costs $ 350. The soc appears to be unchanged.
The Nintendo Switch with an OLED screen will have a diagonal of 7″, compared to the regular Switch with a 6.2″ LCD. The format of the console itself remains unchanged; the company has only reduced the screen edges. This gives the screen a pixel density of 209.8 pixels per inch. The resolution of the OLED screen also remains 1280×720 pixels, just like with the previous Switch models. The Switch with OLED display supports up to 1080p output when the console is connected to a television.
Nintendo does not provide in-depth details about the soc used in the Switch with OLED screen. According to the product page, it is a custom Nvidia Tegra soc, just like the previous Switch models. The soc in the OLED version of the Switch therefore seems unchanged. Earlier rumors stated that Nintendo would release a Switch OLED model with improved soc. This updated chip should ensure that the Switch could handle 4k output and receive DLSS support, but that is not the case with this model.

Furthermore, the new Switch version gets improved speakers and 64GB of integrated storage space. The previous variant had 32GB of storage space. The Switch dock also gets an integrated RJ45 connector for wired Ethernet. The included dock will also be available in a new grey-white color, although a black variant will remain available. The built-in kickstand, used to put the Switch in tabletop mode, is also being improved. Users can now position the Switch at different angles.
The new Switch model is again equipped with a 4310mAh battery, which according to Nintendo lasts 4.5 to 9 hours, depending on the game. The battery can be fully charged in about 3 hours, according to Nintendo. That is identical to the current Nintendo Switch. The console supports Wi-Fi 5 through an 802.11ac radio and Bluetooth 4.1. The console is also compatible with all existing Switch accessories, according to Nintendo.
Nintendo will release the Nintendo Switch with OLED screen on October 8, along with Metroid Dread. The console will have a suggested retail price of $350 upon release. The company does not yet mention euro prices.
