Nintendo to release online game service for Switch console in September
Nintendo has announced that it will release its online game service for the Switch console in September. This service should be Nintendo’s version of PlayStation Network or Xbox Live.
The service, which will be called Nintendo Switch Online, will be introduced sometime in September 2018, although Nintendo did not specify an exact release date at the time of the announcement. The service will cost four euros a month, or eight euros for three months, but you can also pay twenty euros for an annual subscription.
The Nintendo Switch Online service is intended as an online service for playing games in multiplayer, which is currently free. Players will also have the opportunity to play unlimited classic NES games such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Dr. to play Mario. These games will include functionality such as leaderboards and multiplayer options and will remain available for as long as the subscription runs. It was previously communicated that the games can only be played for free for a month, but that has been adjusted after criticism.
Last July, Nintendo released the Switch Online app for Android and iOS; it is intended to complement Nintendo Switch Online. Gamers can invite friends via social media and then create ‘rooms’ to talk to each other via voice chat. Players can also view statistics and their progress.
