Nintendo to release Mario game for iOS in December
Nintendo to release a Mario game for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. The Japanese game maker announced this at the event where Apple will announce the iPhone 7. The game is called Super Mario Run.
In the game, the world’s famous plumber automatically runs across the screen to the right, while players can make Mario jump over obstacles at the touch of the screen. The game can be operated with one hand due to the simple controls. Super Mario Run is not a port of a game for Nintendo’s own handheld DS, for example, but a new game.
It is the first time that Nintendo has announced a Mario game for a platform that is not from the Japanese manufacturer itself. The console maker started taking its first steps in the smartphone field earlier this year with the release of Miitomo.
Super Mario Run will be released on iOS in December. The game will be a one-time fee and will not use in-app purchases. Nintendo has not yet announced what the game will cost. Incidentally, Apple foreman Tim Cook said he is happy that Mario is coming “first” to iOS, which could indicate that the game will also come to Android at a later stage.
