The Nintendo Switch has sold half a million times in the Benelux since the start of sales. Those sales figures would exceed the company’s expectations. NU.nl writes this based on questions to Nintendo.

According to a spokesperson for the game company, the Switch has had “momentum” since the start of sales that has “clearly” increased in the past year. The spokesperson seems to indicate that the Switch has sold better in the second year after release than in the first year. The Switch was released in March 2017. Since then, 34.74 million Switch consoles have been sold worldwide.

Recent sales figures of the Xbox One or Playstation 4 in the Benelux are not available. It is therefore unclear how the sales of Nintendo’s console in the Benelux compare to those of the two competitors. Sony has sold 91.6 million copies of the Playstation 4 worldwide, although that console has been sold since 2013. Microsoft does not say how many Xbox consoles it sells. However, it can be concluded from a comment from publisher EA that the Playstation sells better than the Xbox.

Nintendo is reportedly working on a cheaper version of the Switch, which should be released this year. For example, a German website published a photo of a protective cover for a ‘Mini Switch 2’. With this console, the Joy-Cons would not be detachable, in addition, it would also have a smaller size. In order to reduce costs, parts such as the vibrating motor would also be removed from this Switch version.
