Nintendo: successor to the Switch is not yet in development
Nintendo is not yet developing a successor for the Switch. According to the director, sales of the current model are still going well, so that the focus remains on the current model. Nintendo has already indicated that it is not immediately thinking of new consoles.
The statements come from Nintendo chief executive Shuntaro Furukawa in an interview with The Sankei Times. According to the CEO, there is a target of 20 million Switch consoles sold per year. Because sales are currently going well, there is no thought of a successor, and price reductions are not necessary.
Nintendo previously said it is “not fixated” on making new consoles. According to Furukawa, it is even possible that no new consoles will be made at all. Nintendo wants to be flexible in this, according to the CEO. It is also possible that the company will focus mainly on offering games on smartphones, for example, instead of making its own hardware.
