Nintendo stops delivery of NES Classic Edition in North America

Nintendo will stop shipping the NES Classic Edition in North America this month. According to the manufacturer, it was never intended that the small NES would remain on the market for long, which means that a complete worldwide supply stop seems imminent.

The final delivery for the US and Canada will be in April, Nintendo reports to IGN. The Japanese company apologizes for the poor availability of the mini console. Nintendo speaks in the statement of the last delivery ‘of this year’, but a spokesperson later says that there are no plans to produce new versions for the American market. The NES Classic Controller is also being phased out.

Whether the delivery will stop worldwide is not clear, but it seems likely that it will. “The NES Classic Edition was not intended to be a permanent, long-lasting product. Due to high demand, we made more deliveries than we actually planned,” a spokesperson told IGN.

Nintendo announced the NES Classic Edition in July of last year. The console is a mini version of the original NES featuring thirty classic games. Here the console appeared under the name Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System. At the beginning of this year, the company announced that it had sold 1.5 million copies of the Classic Mini. That was despite the major delivery problems that occurred after the start of sales.
