Nintendo responds to criticism that the Switch has a weak launch lineup
According to Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, his company does not want to immediately shoot all its gunpowder and that is why Nintendo is spreading the releases of game titles for the Switch over 2017. He is responding to criticism that the Switch has a meager line-up at its introduction.
During a discussion of the quarterly figures, Kimishima indicated that he was aware of the criticism of the starting lineup of games for the Switch. When that console arrives in March, only The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Just Dance 2017, 1-2-Switch, Skylanders: Imaginators and some smaller games will be available. “Our thinking in ranking the lineup for 2017 was that it’s important to keep delivering new titles on a regular basis, without long intervals,” said the Nintendo president.
GamesIndustry.biz notes that Nintendo made the same argument with the Wii U, but that it was still a long wait for upcoming titles with that console, due to the postponement of Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U and Game & Wario, among others. For the Switch, Nintendo has the games Mario Kart Deluxe 8, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Arms, Super Mario Odyssey and Snipper Clips on the agenda, all of which should be released in 2017.
