Pokémon Legends: Arceus has sold 6.5 million copies worldwide in a week. The open-world Pokemon game is well on its way to becoming one of the best-selling games for the Nintendo Switch.

The game was released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on Friday, January 28, and will be available for exactly one week at the time of writing. In the open-world RPG, players will discover for the first time Pokémon in the region that will later be known as Sinnoh. Players can capture, train and use the creatures to fight against other “wild” Pokémon with the ultimate goal of building the first Pokédex.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is with 6.5 million copies probably one of the fastest-selling Switch games, although Nintendo only sporadically releases exact game sales figures over time.

The recent quarterly figures and the official list of best-selling Switch games put the sales of the latest Pokémon game into a quantifiable perspective. Take, for example, the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes for the Switch. These games sold nearly 14 million copies in the first month and a half after release. The games are the ninth best-selling Switch games ever viewed through December 31, 2021.

The best-selling Pokémon games for the Switch are Pokémon Sword and Shield, which together have sold almost 24 million copies. The more traditional Pokémon games came out in November of 2019 and are currently in fifth place in Nintendo’s top 10.
