Nintendo releases remaster of first Metroid Prime game for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is releasing a remaster of the first Metroid Prime game for the Nintendo Switch. The game is available immediately on Nintendo eShop; a physical version will follow in early March. Metroid Prime first appeared on the GameCube in 2002.

Nintendo announced the release of its Metroid Prime remaster during a Nintendo Direct presentation. The game is immediate available on Nintendo eShop and costs 40 euros there. A physical version of the game will follow in other stores on March 3, 2023, says the Japanese game giant. According to Nintendo, the game has improved graphics and support for dual-stick controls. However, the game can also be played with ‘classic controls’, which mimic the original game, or motion controls with Joy-Cons.

The remaster only concerns the first part in the Metroid Prime series. There were already rumors in 2021 that Nintendo was working on a remaster of that game. It is unknown whether Nintendo will also release improved versions of parts two and three for the Switch at a later date. The company released a trilogy collection of the three Metroid Prime games for the Wii in 2009.

In addition to the Metroid Prime remaster, Metroid Prime 4 is currently in the works, although few details are known about that game. The game was first announced in 2017. In 2019, Nintendo reported that development had restarted at Retro Studios, the developer behind the original Metroid Prime trilogy. Since then, the company has not shared any information about Metroid Prime 4; the game was not mentioned during this Direct presentation either. It is not yet known when the fourth part should appear.
