Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released on November 15, 2019. At the same time as that announcement, Nintendo showed off new Pokémon Sword and Shield features such as ‘Wild Area’, ‘Dynamax’ and two new Legendary Pokémon, Zacian and Zamazenta.

One of the new features that Nintendo showed during its Direct-stream is Dynamax. This allows players and opponents to ‘holographically’ increase a Pokémon per battle, giving the Pokémon strength for three turns and the ability to perform special attacks. There is also a multiplayer section where players can fight a “raid” against normal Pokémon or have “Max Raid Battles” where players fight against Dynamax Pokémon. In ‘Max Raid Battles’, the Pokémon does not lose its Dynamax form.

Nintendo has also shown new Pokémon including Corviknight, a Pokémon that flies through the Galar region while also acting as a taxi to take the player to previously visited cities. Furthermore, Wooloo, Drednaw and Gossifleur have been added and there are also new Legendary Pokémon. These are Zacian and Zamazenta who, with a sword and a shield, were designed based on the titles of the new Pokémon games.

Furthermore, a ‘Wild Area’ has been added to the game. In this, both players and Pokémon walk freely, players can control the camera themselves. Depending on the weather and what day it is, other Pokémon can be found. The ‘Wild Area’ also offers new possibilities for multiplayer, such as the ‘raid’ battles.

Pokémon Sword and Shield were announced in February and were the first console Pokémon for the Nintendo Switch outside of the Let’s Go editions. Sword and Shield will be released on November 15, 2019, and there will also be a ‘Steelbox’ bundle containing both Pokémon games.
