Nintendo releases ‘battle royale version’ of Tetris
Nintendo has released Tetris 99, a take on the classic block game where players compete against 98 others. The game is free to play for gamers who subscribe to the paid Nintendo Switch Online service.
Just like in popular battle royale games, all players compete against each other and the winner is the last one standing. Opponents can attack each other’s playing field with Garbage Blocks, making it more difficult to make complete lines, but opponents can also counterattack.
Nintendo announced Tetris 99 during its Direct presentation Thursday night. The game is only available to paying Nintendo Switch Online members and is available immediately. During the presentation, Nintendo announced several other games, including Super Mario Maker 2 and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, for Nintendo Switch.
