Nintendo patents show sleep monitor with built-in projector
Nintendo patent applications have been found online showing that the company is thinking about developing a device that monitors the user’s sleep, for example by measuring heart rate and temperature. At the same time, images are projected.
The patent applications in question were found by a user of the NeoGAF forum and uploaded to the World Intellectual Property Organization. One of the patents describes a system in which, according to Nintendo, a person’s emotional state is measured, for example by using a microphone for sounds and a camera for images. From this, the system must determine how the user feels. A second patent describes a system with sensors that can measure, for example, a person’s heart rate and temperature.
Nintendo’s sleep sensor appears to consist of a docking station in which a smartphone can be placed. Furthermore, this docking station has a projector with which images can be projected onto the ceiling. Among other things, it is possible to show the ‘sleep score’ calculated by the system, a measure of how good the sleep was.
Although patent applications do not always lead to the actual production of the proposed products, it is likely that Nintendo is indeed working on a sleep sensor. The company previously announced that it wanted to release such a product, although it gave few details about its plans. It’s part of Nintendo’s quality of life project, but it’s still unclear when a sleep monitor could hit the market.
