Nintendo is working on a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie
Nintendo has announced a The Legend of Zelda live action film. Wes Ball, known as The Maze Runner director, will direct the Zelda film. Nintendo will partly produce the film itself and will finance at least half of the film.
The gaming company produces the film along with Avi Arad, who has produced many Marvel superhero series and films in the past. Nintendo will co-finance the film with Sony Pictures, with the former providing more than half of the money. Sony Pictures will be responsible for international cinema distribution.
It is not clear when the Zelda movie will be released. The live action film follows the success of the animated The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released in April this year. That film contributed to record profits for the company. Creator of The Legend of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto, says ‘for many years’ to work on a The Legend of Zelda movie. He also says that the film “still needs time” until it is finished.
This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. [1]
