Nintendo is working on a device to track sleep via radio waves
Game console maker Nintendo is working on a device that allows users to track their sleep via radio waves. It would be Nintendo’s first step for its Quality of Life platform, which Nintendo wants to take a step outside of gaming.
The device must be on the bedside table and uses radio waves to track how users sleep, according to a slide from Nintendo during the discussion of the quarterly figures. Since it works with radio waves, it does not require the user to wear a device.
The data from the device will be uploaded to Nintendo servers and then users can view it on a console; that presumably enables applications that are in line with Nintendo’s Wii Fit series, The Verge bets.
Nintendo is releasing little further information about the device, such as the precise operation of the radio waves it uses to track sleep. Gadgets that could do that have appeared before, but they could only monitor movement and therefore offer less data than many other accessories with the same purpose.
