Nintendo is being sued over joystick problems on Joy-Cons
A US law firm has launched a class action lawsuit against Nintendo over issues Switch owners may experience with the Joy-Con controllers. It’s about how the joysticks work.
The complaint states that the Joy-Cons have a defect, according to the law firm, which could lead to ‘drifting’. This is the term used for the situation where the user does not touch the joystick, while the Switch still thinks that is the case, with the result that in a game, for example, the camera perspective changes or a character starts moving. This affects the gameplay experience, according to the complaint.
According to the law firm, this is not an isolated problem, which only occurs with a few. The internet has been complaining about this problem for a long time. A Switch user recently complained that he started dealing with the drifting issues after only four months. His post about it on Reddit already has nearly 28,000 upvotes. Recently the website Kotaku reported that a quarter of the editors experience these problems.
Nintendo, according to the complaint, is aware of the problem, but would refuse to disclose it and make no attempt to fix the defect at no additional cost. As far as we know, Nintendo has not yet officially responded. It is not yet known whether it will actually come to a lawsuit and how high the damage amount will be.
