Nintendo has sold 12.6 million Wii Us so far
Nintendo has sold 12.6 million copies of its Wii U console to date. Competitor Sony has sold almost three times as many consoles so far. In recent months, Nintendo has sold 1.87 million units of its Wii U.
The Wii U is well behind the Xbox One and PS4 with a total of 12.6 million units. Microsoft’s console comes to 19 million and is now the number two of this generation’s consoles behind Sony. The Xbox One and PS4 came out a year after the Wii U.
Nintendo lists the total number of consoles sold in its quarterly figures for the last months of 2015. It sold 1.87 million Wii Us, about the same as in the same period last year. The number of 3DS handhelds Nintendo sold reached 3.6 million. The company also sold 40,000 Wiis.
The Japanese game company achieved an operating profit of 33.5 billion yen, currently converted around 255 million euros. That profit increased slightly, but turnover fell by 17 percent to 224.5 billion yen, about 1.7 billion euros.
