Nintendo has no plans for free or paid DLC in Super Mario Run
Nintendo has no plans to offer DLC in Super Mario Run for iOS. A company spokesperson told a business newspaper. Super Mario Run is the first Mario game for a smartphone platform and came out last week.
There are no plans for paid DLC or free added content, a Nintendo spokesperson told business newspaper The Wall Street Journal. With this Nintendo deviates from the model of Pokémon Go. For example, that game recently got new monsters. The Japanese console maker has a large stake in the company behind Pokémon.
Users can play the first three levels in Super Mario Run and after that the game asks for a one-time payment of 9.99 euros to unlock all content in the game. The one-time and high payment for a mobile game seems to arouse the resentment of players. The game is rated 2.5 stars in the App Store. Another factor that may come into play is the need for a constant internet connection against piracy. Users in areas with poor mobile coverage and no or limited data bundles can therefore not play the game everywhere.
Super Mario Run came out last week for iOS and is due for Android next year. Nintendo hasn’t released any numbers on how many times the game has been installed so far, but analysts put it at around five million times in the first 24 hours.
