Nintendo files lawsuit against Mario Kart-based go-kart tours in Tokyo
Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against Maricar’s go-kart tours. These tours, in which participants dress up as a Mario Kart figure and drive karts that resemble the vehicles in the game, are infringing Nintendo’s intellectual property.
According to Nintendo, Maricar, which organizes the tours of the Japanese capital, has never been allowed to have participants dress up as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad or Bowser. Maricar’s website appears to have been taken down; it’s unclear if this has anything to do with Nintendo’s indictment.
A similar karting experience called Akiba Kart, which also organizes Mario Kart-based tours in Tokyo, has not yet been charged, according to The Verge.
Maricar’s outdoor activity is rated very highly on TripAdvisor. The karts to be rented can reach a speed of 80 km/h.
