Nintendo Enables Two-Step Authentication on Accounts
Nintendo has added support for two-factor authentication to Nintendo Accounts. If you want to activate the security layer, you have to download an authenticator app, which provides users with the necessary codes.
Nintendo has not officially announced the arrival of two factor authentication, but Nintendo Life has noted the addition. On its US support page, Nintendo explains the steps users must go through to activate the protection.
‘2-Step Verification’ has been added to the ‘Sign-in & security settings’. In the settings of this section, users can enter their e-mail. After verifying this address, they must install an authenticator; Nintendo recommends the Google Authenticator, which is available for Android and iOS. This allows them to scan QR codes generated by the Nintendo Account to obtain a six-digit code. After entering this code into their account, they get access.
Many services preceded Nintendo in supporting two-factor authentication. Blizzard has had it for World of Warcraft since 2008, Valve added the protection to its mobile apps in 2015, and Sony’s PlayStation Network got support for the security layer last year.
