Nintendo denies that NX console will run Android

Nintendo does not intend to choose Android as the operating system for the NX, the game console that should appear next year. A Japanese newspaper brought that rumor on Monday, but Nintendo has referred the reporting to the land of fables.

Nintendo’s denial to The Wall Street Journal follows a report by the generally considered reliable Japanese newspaper Nikkei. “The message that we plan to use Android for the NX is not true,” said a spokesperson.

The rumor seemed credible, as Nintendo has taken the step to release mobile games with the Japanese company’s well-known game characters. The move to Android would make it easier for developers to create games for the upcoming NX console. The current Wii U is considerably less popular than the previous Wii and Nintendo would like to win back developers in this way.

Nintendo has not yet released any details about the NX and so it is even unclear what kind of game device it is, but that console will be coming next year, was revealed by the game company in March.
