Nintendo denies having plans for N64 Classic Mini
Nintendo denies having any plans to make an N64 Classic Mini. Last year the SNES Classic Mini came out, the year before a NES Classic Mini. According to Nintendo, these were products to fill the gap between Wii U and Switch.
Reggie Fils-Aime, CEO of Nintendo in the United States, does not completely rule out an N64 Classic Mini in an interview with Kotaku, but says that there are no plans to make such a console at the moment. Playing classic games should now be via subscription Switch Online on the Switch console.
The mini-versions of the classic consoles were supposed to form a bridge between the Wii U and the Switch, says Fils-Aime. “We were clear when we released the first two Classic consoles that it was a time-limited opportunity, because as a company we wanted to bridge the time from the Wii U slot as a hardware platform until the Switch was released. been that if people want to play our classic games, it will be more and more through the subscription service.”
The NES Classic Mini was released in late 2016, while the SNES version came out in late 2017. That happened after the Switch’s release in March 2017, but before users could play classic games via Switch Online. The subscription service went live two months ago.
