Nintendo delivers more 3DS handhelds
Nintendo has shipped more copies of its 3DS handhelds in recent months. Where deliveries in the same period last year remained at 820,000, they exceeded one million this spring.
The increase that Nintendo reports in the quarterly figures is probably due to the release of the new models New 3DS and New 3DS XL. Nintendo delivered 710,000 of the latter this spring. The number of games that Nintendo sold decreased, from 8.6 million to 7.9 million.
The increase in the number of handhelds delivered contrasts with the trend that many people play on a smartphone or tablet instead of a handheld. That trend is so strong that Nintendo announced it will be making games for mobile platforms.
The number of Wii Us sold by Nintendo dropped from 510,000 to 470,000. The number of games for the Wii U that Nintendo could sell rose, from 4.4 to 4.6 million. The Japanese manufacturer will present a new game device next year, which it refers to as NX for the time being.
