Nintendo comes with a revision of Switch with different soc and different memory
Nintendo is going to release a revision of its Switch with a different soc and different storage memory. It may be a variant of the Tegra X1 processor that is more economical and has more storage. It is not yet clear when the new Switch will be released.
That Nintendo is going to change the hardware of the Switch is apparent from documents published by the American watchdog FCC. Nintendo has requested permission there to change parts of the existing Switch, The Verge noted. The renewed Switch will probably not be presented as a new model and Nintendo may not say anything about the renewed processor. It is common for consoles to be equipped with modified hardware over the years if, for example, there is a better version of a chip or if the production process is modified.
According to the document, another soc is coming in the overhaul. The current Switch contains the Nvidia Tegra X1 and there have been indications for some time that a new version of that chip is on the way that is more economical. That same chip would also end up in a new version of the Nvidia Shield TV. It would be the t210b01 variant of the Tegra X1. It also appears that the revision of the Switch will have different nand memory. That’s the integrated flash storage in the console. It is not clear whether it only concerns other chips or more storage space. The current Switch has 32GB on board.
The FCC document is not about the Nintendo Switch Lite announced on Wednesday. That is a different model with a new type number. It is also not a Switch Pro, which has been rumored for some time. The changes that Nintendo has requested concern the existing regular version of the Switch, which came out in 2017.
