Nikon Z5 system camera with full frame sensor costs 1599 euros

Nikon presents the Z5 system camera, a cheaper alternative to the Z6 and Z7. The new model, like the Z6, has a 24-megapixel sensor of the full-frame format, but it is a different sensor and not a BSI-CMOS. Nikon also comes with a compact 24-50mm lens.

The Nikon Z5 has the same Z mount, built-in image stabilization and autofocus as the more expensive Z6. The housing is also largely comparable. The new Z5 has a chassis that is partly made of plastic and at the top there is no screen, but only a turning wheel. Like the more expensive models, the Z5 is sealed against dust and moisture. Nikon gives the camera an OLED viewfinder with 3.7 million pixels and a 3.2 “tilt screen. There are two SD card slots in the camera. The Z6 and Z7 use xqd cards and have only one card slot

The camera contains a 24.3-megapixel sensor of the full-frame format. The Z5 has a regular CMOS sensor, while the more expensive models have a BSI CMOS. There is also less emphasis on the film function of the Z5. The device can film in 4k resolution with a maximum of 30fps, but it uses a 1.7x crop of the sensor. The more expensive models can use the entire sensor when filming in 4k.

Nikon presents a compact zoom lens together with the camera; the Nikkor-Z 24-50mm f / 4-6.3 . Nikon bundles it in a set with the camera for a suggested retail price of 1899 euros. This kit is available from August 27. The 24-50mm lens also appears separately for 479 euros. Nikon does not mention a price for the separate camera body, but shops offer it for 1599 euros. At the time of writing, the higher positioned Nikon Z6 is available from 1649 euros.
