Nikon Z fc gets appearance and buttons from analog SLR camera

Nikon introduces a new model in the Z series of mirrorless system cameras. The Nikon Z fc has a design based on the Nikon FM2 SLR from 1982 and many physical buttons. The device has a 21-megapixel sensor of the APS-C format.

On the inside, the Nikon Z fc is largely similar to the Nikon Z50, which was announced at the end of 2019. For example, the camera has the same 21-megapixel sensor, a Z-lens mount and an Expeed 6 image processor.

However, the appearance of the Nikon Z fc is based on Nikon’s analog SLRs from the 1980s. Nikon specifically mentions the FM2 from 1982 as a source of inspiration. As a result, the device not only has an old-fashioned appearance, but also many manual controls to set the exposure.

Nikon also gives the Z fc new elements; for example, the device has a tilting 3 “screen and a USB-C connection with which the camera can be charged or continuously supplied with power. The Nikon Z fc can also receive firmware updates via a wirelessly connected smartphone.

The camera shoots up to 11 photos per second while retaining all autofocus functions and can use the entire sensor to shoot 4k videos. The device has an electronic OLED viewfinder with a resolution of 2.36 million pixels.

Nikon is also introducing the Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 SE, a special version of the existing Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 lens. The SE version looks like an old-fashioned Nikon lens. Nikon also announces that it is working on an 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR lens for the APS-C cameras in the Z series.

The Nikon Z fc will be delivered from 28 July. The body has a suggested retail price of 999 euros and a kit with the 28mm lens costs 1249 euros. However, the Nikon site also mentions discount prices of 899 and 1149 euros for both versions.
