Nikon presents super-telephoto lenses
Nikon comes with two lightweight super-telephoto lenses, the AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4E FL ED VR and AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/4E FL ED VR. Both lenses are a lot lighter than their predecessors. The weight loss is 25 and 20 percent respectively
In addition to the difference in weight, Nikon has also changed the optical design. For example, the manufacturer uses elements of fluorite glass in addition to ED glass and Nano Crystral Coat. The 500mm lens now weighs 3090 grams compared to 3880 of its predecessor. The 600mm variant even weighs 1250 grams less than the old model: only 3810 grams.
The super-telephoto lenses feature Nikon’s latest shake reduction technology. The reduction should provide an advantage of four stops. The sport mode should help you track fast-moving subjects. The diaphragms are electromagnetic, which should be advantageous especially at high frame rates. The autofocus mechanism has a focus limitation, which allows the lens to focus faster. The switch can be set to Full and infinity to ten meters on the 600mm lens and from infinity to eight meters on the 500mm. The shortest focusing distance is 3.6 meters for the 500mm lens and 4.4 meters for the 600mm.
In addition to the internal changes, Nikon has equipped the lenses with a Kensington lock in the rotating tripod mount ring on the outside. Due to the new construction, the lenses also have a different balance. The weight is less at the front, so they should feel more stable due to the shifted center of gravity.
The lenses will be available from July 16. For the 500mm variant, 10,999 euros must be paid and for the 600mm 12,999 euros.
